How to Become A Rainmaker
Rain- Thats been the weather here in New York for what feels like aan eternity! Since when did Seattle and New York have a trade that I wasn’t made aware of ?
Being that rain was the principal of discussion for the lion’s share of us in this part of the States at the beginning of the summer, it does call to mind a lesson on Branding I learned from one Dr. Ben Mack which happened last year.
In this and later articles I am going to try and cover the major partsof the talkwhich included: 1) How to Make the Lightning, 2) How to keep the lightning striking and 3) How to Bottle your Lightning.
For those of you not acquainted Dr. Ben Mack, he is among the foremost powers that be on Branding today in the USA. He has worked at over 14 different Ad agencies over his memorable professional undertakings and held position of Vice President for Brand strategy for a very large corporation.
In essence what that meant was he was a lead strategist in charge of a ” Billion dollar budget (yes, I said ” BILLION or 500 Million dollar account!). Do you think he knows what he is talking about? I certainly do, and not only has he worked magic for the corporations he worked for, he is also a Professional Magician who at age 19 was the youngest recepient of the Award of Merit given by the Academy of Magical Arts.
Do you know what a Rainmaker is? Do you want to become one? A rainmaker aside from the apparent implication of a Medicine Man who using magic makes it rain, is a person with the uncanny ability to be a magnet for customers, exploit (in a good way) political associations, and bottom line, make the company a lot of dough. However, when it rains the lightning isnt far behind! We will get more into that in a bit.
As an internet Marketer your chief duty is to “up sell” individuals on their perception of reality. In Ben Macks book “Think Two Products Ahead” he speaks of how effective branding only occurs when companies think two products ahead rather then thinking just for the moment and for them to assemble a sucessful relationship with their customers by means of their Brand The section in the book where Ben talks about creating your Legend Platform is worth its weight in gold!
The “Brand” (called YOU) is built by using legends or tales that are told over and over and gain strenght with time. These stories should be allowed to say the opposite of what the others say and will increase as the stories get older. So, if you had to make a choice of the type of story you use to make your business sparkle like a diamond (you are reading articles like this to help you right?) why not let them be legends. A Legendary business is a profitable one!
